FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Answers from Your Gonstead Chiropractor
Are all patients adjusted the same way?
No—every adjustment is unique to the individual. At SeaCoast Clinic, we use the Gonstead Method, which includes a detailed five-step analysis before every adjustment. This ensures we know exactly which vertebra needs to be adjusted, how, and why. There’s no guesswork and no one-size-fits-all care. Your spine is as unique as your fingerprint, and your care plan should be too.
Can I adjust myself?
No—you cannot safely or effectively adjust yourself. While twisting or stretching may produce a "popping" sound, this doesn’t correct spinal misalignments. In fact, repeated self-manipulation can lead to instability or worsen existing issues. With the Gonstead Method, we deliver targeted, biomechanically sound adjustments that restore function without causing further damage.
Why do I need to take X-rays?
X-rays allow us to see the full structure of your spine and are a critical step in the Gonstead analysis. They help us determine the exact location, direction, and severity of any spinal misalignments. This ensures your adjustment is precise, safe, and effective. We only take X-rays when clinically necessary—and never guess when it comes to your care.
Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Yes, chiropractic adjustments are extremely safe when performed by a licensed chiropractor trained in a specific system like Gonstead. We use a gentle, hands-on approach based on detailed analysis, not force. Our Orange County patients appreciate the accuracy and results of this method, which minimizes risk and maximizes long-term spinal health.
Does an adjustment still work if I don’t hear a sound?
Yes. The "popping" or "cracking" sound that often occurs during an adjustment is simply gas being released from the joint—not a measure of success. With the Gonstead Method, the most important part is to restore normal motion, alignment, and being on the right segment regardless of sound. Many effective adjustments are completely silent due to inflammation but still highly beneficial.
Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
Absolutely. In fact, many of our pregnant patients in Orange County seek chiropractic care to relieve pain, support pelvic alignment, and prepare for an easier labor and delivery. Our technique are gentle and tailored to the specific needs of each trimester. The Gonstead Method ensures precise adjustments without unnecessary pressure or twisting.
Can I see a chiropractor if I’ve had back surgery?
Yes. Many patients with a history of spinal surgery find relief through chiropractic care. Using the Gonstead system, we carefully analyze your spine and avoid areas that have been surgically altered, focusing on adjacent regions that may be compensating or under stress. We always proceed cautiously and with a full understanding of your medical history.
How long will it take for chiropractic care to work?
Healing time varies depending on the severity of your condition, how long it’s been present, and your overall health. Some patients feel immediate relief, while others may require several weeks of consistent care. With the Gonstead Method, your progress is continually reassessed to ensure you're improving. Our goal is to restore your function and keep you feeling great long-term—not just provide temporary relief.
